The Future of Captain Tarillion

Have you read Lords of the Dark? A confession: when I started this short novella I only intended for Capt. Tarillion to serve as a lead-in to my main series. It was going to be just a brief jaunt to the other side of the universe before I returned to the safe, familiar environs of Sol.

Well. You know what they say about plans, God, laughing, etc.

So, I ended up with a thing for our friend Lees. He’s a man of principle and a man of action, who has a tendency to slack at his day job (compound that with a weakness for dark-haired lady bounty hunters, and you can guess at why he gets himself into trouble). Way more interesting than your Immagonnablowshitup kind of hero. Lees has reasons for being a malingerer.

The problem is, what happens now? I can’t leave him floating in limbo. I think…I think he may have to show up in the main Darkspace Saga. Book 1 is already written, but Book 2…I think Cap’n Tarillion may just have to show up and steal the show right in the middle of the action.

That said, Capt. Tarillion might just get his own dang series. If you like this idea, make sure you let me know (comment on this article or send me a note).

Haven’t read Lords of the Dark yet? (Cue inflatable wavy arm tube man–get it here!).

  1. Okay, I’m interested. So wasn’t expecting the ending!!
But since Tarillion isn’t in the next book? Means we’ll be flying into the beginning with little intruduction. Well, we did meet the Admiral Karsath. Still interested in how it all plays out.

    1. Sandra, Tarillion is in book 2 (and in The Admiral’s Cage, which is a short story focused on Karsath). Glad you enjoyed it–Tarillion’s going to have a pretty big role in books 2 + 3.

  2. Just finished Lords Of The Dark, really enjoyed it.

I think Tarillion may need at least one book but probably 3~4 to explain what happened between end of ‘Lords’ and the intro to Book 1 you put in end of it.
Got to be at least 18~20 yrs of stories there? ;o)

    1. Hi Peter, I’m delighted that you enjoyed it! Members of my mailing list got the excerpt, but there is a trilogy in the offing for Captain Tarillion this year. Look for it in May!

Really appreciate the review, it made my day!
